This absolutely gorgeous American Brilliant Period Cut Glass Sunburst pattern pedestal bowl by Kelly & Steinman dates back to the early 1900s. The fanned star with a punty design is repeated in different combinations on the bowl and foot of this unusual piece. I believe that the cupped shape is referred to as a violet globe on pedestal. According to page KEL-14 of Rob & Val Smith's Cut Glass Ads which shows an 1905 advertisement for this piece, it was marketed to jewelers as a comport. This stunning piece of glass is 10” tall with a 5“ base and a measurement of 5.5“ across the rim. This piece is in near perfect condition with only a few small flaws. There is a chip on the end of one tooth on the base (see the left side of the foot close-up photo) and another has a small chip on the bottom which I can feel but not see. There is also a small rough spot of tiny nicks on the side of one of the fans on the bowl, very difficult to find even when you know it’s there. A clear and lingering tone is produced when tapped gently. The glass is crystal clear and prismatic and will provide a rainbow of colors when the light shines through it. A really beautiful piece!
